Designing Research Experiences and Mentoring (DREAM) Summer Internship
The Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center at UT Southwestern is committed to the development of the next generation of scientists by offering opportunities and connections to engage individuals from diverse backgrounds to pursue scientific careers in cancer research. High-level scientific discovery is dependent on a steady stream of new thinkers to provide an array of perspectives.
We welcome undergraduate students to apply for a 10-week summer internship funded by the American Cancer Society at Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Designing Research Experiences and Mentoring (DREAM) Internship will create a broad experience for enriching the interests, knowledge and connections of and among students as they explore different areas of cancer research. Our program includes:
- Mentored Research Experiences tailored to meet needs and capture the interests of scholars
- Formal Curriculum taught by Cancer Center members on concepts and fields in cancer research
- Social Activities and Peer Mentorship to connect trainees and enhance a culture of belonging and community
- Career Development and Networking opportunities with insights into a variety of potential scientific paths and linking to colleagues and mentors for the future.
This opportunity is ideal for undergraduates who aim to advance their scientific expertise and professional skills in preparation for careers in research and medicine and program participants will receive a stipend.
2025 Program Dates: June 2 – August 8, 2025
Eligibility:
- Rising college sophomores, juniors, and seniors with an interest in any STEM discipline
- Applicants must be in good academic standing with at least a 3.0 overall GPA.
- Applicants must be full-time students who are not enrolled in summer courses or training programs concurrent with the internship.
