Eligibility Referral Specialist

Position Overview:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and compassionate Eligibility Referral Specialist to join our agency. In this role, you will be responsible for interviewing public assistance applicants, assessing their eligibility for programs and benefits, and managing ongoing eligibility re-determinations. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct interviews with public assistance applicants via phone or in person to evaluate initial and ongoing eligibility for agency programs and services.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with public assistance clients to assess their continued eligibility and address employment barriers.
  • Collaborate with public and private sector agencies to establish work experience sites and foster relationships for employment and workforce development initiatives.
  • Track client work activity hours and assist clients with job search and retention activities.
  • Attend or conduct hearings and meetings regarding public assistance and employment-related issues.
  • Perform various tasks associated with the duties of the Eligibility Referral Unit as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or
    • High school diploma or equivalent required with a minimum of 2 years of customer service experience in an office environment, or experience as Admin Support.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in computer applications and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to provide a copy upon request.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to extract relevant information and listen effectively to identify problems and provide solutions.
  • Proficient in typing, writing, and performing intermediate mathematical operations.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Ability to interact effectively with individuals that maybe in distressing situations.
  • Familiarity with state, federal, and local laws, rules, and regulations related to public assistance is a plus, but not required.

 

Working Conditions:

  • The position is primarily office-based, requiring occasional walking, standing, bending, or lifting light objects.
  • The probability of injury is low, and no unusual physical effort is required.
