Data Governance Specialist Summer Intern

TEMPORARY POSITION
Summer Internship Position will begin June 1, 2025 and end August 8, 2025 (40 hours per week).

ABOUT THE Division

General description
Join the Information Technology division team as a Data Governance Specialist Intern! Performs entry-level data governance policy and procedure analysis work. Work involves assisting in promoting the data literacy program for the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts through the direction of the Data Management Officer. Assists in performing data governance through tools to track metadata, data classification. May support data literacy initiatives through new ideas. May support specific data governance or special projects initiatives. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Work Hours

40 hours per week between the hours of 7 a.m. – 6 p.m., with occasional evening and weekend hours. Hours may change based on business needs. 

Teleworking may be considered if certain working conditions are met. The candidate must be able to meet in office requirements, which can vary among different sections (i.e., report to office 1-3 days/week, etc.). Travel reimbursements are not provided for teleworking.

 

Minimum Qualifications

• Currently enrolled as a Junior or Senior at an accredited four-year college or university, or a recent graduate within one year.
• Professional or Academic experience in one of the following:
  - Policy analysis or development.
  - Data analysis, 
  - Research and planning, 
  - Training, 
  - and/or reporting work.


 

Preferred Qualifications

Currently enrolled as a Junior or Senior at an accredited four-year college or university, or a recent graduate within one year, with major course in data science, business analytics, computer science, computer information systems, management information systems, accounting, finance, mathematics, statistics, economics, or a related fields, such as political science, government, public affairs, communications or liberal arts.

 


SUMMARY OF PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires the incumbent to primarily perform sedentary office work; however, mobility (standing and walking (is routinely required to carry out some duties. It requires extensive computer, telephone and client customer contact. It requires the ability to bend, stoop, kneel and reach as need for filing or similar routine office duties. This job also requires normal cognitive ability, require the ability to learn, recall, and apply certain practices and policies. It requires the stamina to maintain attention to details despite interruption. Marginal or corrective visual or audio requirements are required for reading printed materials, computer screens, and communicating with internal and external customers. May involve up to 25 pounds of office equipment/material on a limited basis.

Employees are required to use their personal mobile phones as a part of 2 factor/multi factor authentication for accessing CPA systems securely. You will also receive critical/emergency calls/texts on your cell phone to ensure immediate communication.

 


In this role you will: 

• Assists in reviewing data governance documentation, including policies, procedures, and standards.
• Working closely with cross-functional teams to assist in driving data governance initiatives and promoting data integrity.
• May provide support in training for employees on data governance policies and procedures.
• Monitors and reports on the effectiveness of data governance policies.
• Assists in maintaining metadata management processes to catalog and document data assets, including data lineage, definitions, and usage.
• Assists in performing data governance through tools to track metadata, data classification.
• Assists with data quality assessments to identify and address data issues.
• May Support data literacy initiatives through new ideas.
• Assists in developing data literacy training.
• Performs related work as assigned.
