Responsibilities
The intern will work with Youth and Family programs on implementation of summer programming and on additional projects that interest them and tie into educational programmatic planning at The Ringling.
INTERN RESPONSIBILITIES
The Youth and Family Programs Summer Intern will assist with the following tasks, as well as additional tasks as needed:
- Prepping and assisting with summer programs such as ROAR and Family Art Making
- Facilitating Open Studio and Art After Five Family Nights at The Ringling Museum.
- Developing materials for future programs and projects that interest the intern.
- Attend weekly meetings with the Education staff at The Ringling to learn about other education and public program initiatives
EDUCATIONAL OUTCOMES
Through a position as the Youth and Family Programs Intern, the selected candidate will learn how to:
- Facilitate educational programming at an art museum
- Collaborate with a large museum education team
- Gain experience working with visitors of all ages, including children and families, in a wide array of settings
- Work with volunteers
- Research and write educational materials
- Experience multi-part teen programming with a community partner
ABOUT
The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art is the state art museum of Florida and consists of multiple venues and departments including art and circus museums, historic mansion, arboretum, rose garden, historic theater, archives, and art reference library – everything suited on a 66-acre campus overlooking Sarasota Bay.
The Ringling's summer internships run from June 2 – July 25, 2025 and combine practical, hands-on experience working on one or more projects while gaining exposure to all aspects of The Ringling’s operation including professional development and cultural enrichment activities.
Qualifications
Please note candidate must be able to start on June 2, 2025.
- High school diploma or GED and is currently active in obtaining a degree in higher education
- Ability to use Microsoft Suite programs, including Microsoft Word and Excel
- Experience with Canva
- Good organizational and communication skills
- Interest in working with children and families
- Ability to help with set up and cleanup of art-making programs at The Museum
- Reaching and lifting up to 15 pounds
- A valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain
- A driver's permit cannot be accepted
Preferred Qualifications
- A background in art, art history, or history
- Experience working with children and families
- Excellent research and writing skills

Considerations
Rate of Pay $15 per hour
Working Hours Up to 40 hours a week. Work schedule is based around Summer Education Programming (Tues/Wed/Fri/Sat - 8 AM - 5 PM and Thur 12 PM - 8 PM).
- This position is based in Sarasota, FL.
- This is an OPS/Temporary position.
- This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check to include fingerprinting.
