Development Coordinator

Pay Band: $43,903 - $59,398


 

General Description 

In this newly created position, the Development Coordinator will provide wide-ranging administrative support to the Development Department while learning and performing fundraising processes and tasks.

The Development Coordinator is detail-oriented, well-organized, and is comfortable in a fast-paced, all-remote environment. The Development Coordinator will spend considerable time working in the organization’s database and play an important role in data maintenance and integrity. The Development Coordinator will also have some basic graphic design/layout skills and is a confident and capable writer. The Development Coordinator  is eager to learn about fundraising in a growing organization that serves military-connected families. 

Key Job Functions, by Area

  •  
  • Administrative
    • Accurately create and maintain account records in Salesforce Nonprofit Cloud, Blue Star Families’ Customer relationship management (CRM) software. 
      • Use established organizational protocols–and good judgement to help establish new ones–
      • Create new Accounts
      • Log Interactions (emails, meeting notes, etc.) 
      • Build out Relationships, add photos, notes, and links to Accounts as appropriate.
      • Perform ongoing and periodic data hygiene routines (using and running reports, correcting errors, updating addresses, marking records as deceased, etc.)
    • Assist in tracking and creating stewardship reports and related collateral materials for donors
    • Manage appointments and schedules in Google Calendar
  • Technical
    • Use Google Suite (email, calendar, chat) and Google Drive for creating, editing, and saving Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Slides
    • Design and edit engaging and impactful donor reports using Canva, Canto, and/or other applications as needed
    • Understand and utilize BSF program management software, Hive, to update project tasks and collaborate efficiently with other BSF colleagues and teams
    • Schedule and attend meetings on Zoom on camera (BSF backgrounds provided); be able to share screen, use chat
  • Fundraising
    • Learn and apply key fundraising techniques such as research/prospecting, and donor cultivation/stewardship 
    • Support the planning and execution of special events, particularly around maintaining invitation (campaign) lists in Salesforce
  • Communication and Research
    • Write clearly and effectively; create emails, memos, biographies, and reports, as needed
    • Conduct research to identify new potential individual donors and appropriate corporate/foundation/government funding prospects for BSF’s programs and priorities; present findings in a clear and concise manner using Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides)
  • Department Coordination
    • Keep Departmental meeting calendar and agenda
    • Provide updates at Departmental meetings 
    • Perform other duties as assigned


 

Required Experience, Skills, Background 

  • 0-2 years of experience in fundraising, administration, or a related field. Equivalent relevant experience, including volunteer or freelance work, is welcomed.
  • A background in writing and analysis, whether gained through formal education (e.g., an associate’s or bachelor’s degree), professional experience, or other learning pathways.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple administrative tasks on deadline, such as record management, information synthesis, note-taking, and scheduling.
  • Proficiency in business software (e.g., Google Suite, Canva, Salesforce, Hive) or a proven ability to quickly learn and adapt to new tools.
  • Strong research skills applicable to fundraising, business, or related fields; candidates with interdisciplinary or self-taught expertise are encouraged to apply.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail.
  • Comfort asking questions and seeking clarification to prioritize tasks or assignments effectively.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, fostering a collegial and inclusive team environment.
  • Occasional out-of-town, overnight travel may be required on an as needed basis .
  • May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays as necessary to carry out key job functions.
  • Ability to lift and carry supplies and equipment up to 30 lbs.
