Economic Development Intern

The focus of this internship opportunity is for the successful candidate to become an active member of the Dublin Economic Development Team that continuously explores innovative ways to better serve the local business community. This role includes assisting with the development, implementation, administration, and evaluation of the City's business retention and expansion program; and assists with identifying opportunities for the City to deliver responsive programs and services.

The purpose of the Economic Development internship is to provide students of graduate and undergraduate programs with professional economic development experience in a public sector organization. This program is intended to provide part-time employment as a complement to the student's studies. Upon the student's completion of the Economic Development internship program, the student should have adequate training and experience necessary for an entry-level economic development position.

Scheduling/Availability

  • Interns are expected to work an average of 10+ hours per week, in-person, at the City of Dublin Economic Development Offices
  • Interns may be permitted to work a full-time schedule during summer, winter, and spring breaks subject to the approved budget.

Intern Pay Structure
Undergraduate Freshman: $17.00/hour
Undergraduate Sophomore: $17.50/hour
Undergraduate Junior: $18.00/hour
Undergraduate Senior: $18.50/hour
First Year Graduate Student: $19.50/hour
Second Year Graduate Student: $21.00/hour

Economic Development Interns are expected to perform work involving community and economic development. Specific areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:

  • Participating in and/or managing special projects under the supervision of the Economic Development Administrator(s)
  • Researching and responding to inquiries under the supervision of the Economic Development Administrator(s)
  • Supporting the Economic Development Department with their strategic projects
  • Attending business retention & expansion meetings to support the team in response efforts
  • Assistance with City responses to business attraction leads
  • Active prospecting of new and existing businesses in the community for business retention outreach
  • Assistance in developing business and workforce recruitment content for social media platforms
  • Assistance with preparing presentations for public meetings
  • Data collection and field assessments
  • Assistance with the preparation of detailed reports
  • Assembling and maintaining permanent records
  • Assisting with setting up and conducting public meetings

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Public Administration, City & Regional Planning, Business Administration, Marketing, Economics, Finance, or a degree in a related field
  • Possession of a valid driver's license
  • Available to work an average of 10 hours per week in-person in Dublin, OH (no remote opportunities available)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior economic development, planning, public administration, or other related experience (professional, volunteer, student, etc.)
  • Prior experience in an office environment and/or prior experience with customer service, report writing, and/or project management
  • Ideal candidates are assertive, comfortable with multi-tasking, and have the ability to prioritize their responsibilities and manage deadlines with minimal supervision
