Environmental Education Intern
Join our Education Team in working with residents and local businesses to support the adoption of conservation practices. This internship will work closely with the Environmental Education Specialists to lead youth education programs (summer camp, library, public programs) and occasional weekend events.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Lead environmental education programming (schools/youth groups/camps) for youth grades PreK-12.
• Prepare and update program materials/displays as needed for educational programs/outreach.
• Assist with community events on weekends and evenings including: loading/unloading and setting up displays, interacting with the public and keeping track of visitor numbers.
• Assist with Summer Educator Workshops including: prepping materials, organizing teacher resource bags, participating in all aspects of the teacher workshop.
• Assist with upkeep and maintenance of education models including: cleaning equipment, refilling containers, and making any necessary repairs.
• Assist with the digitization of educational resources and materials.
• Connect with a variety of audiences and communities.
Qualifications
• Demonstrate an appreciation for and understanding of natural resource conservation.
• Able to learn to adjust and deliver content in a way that is engaging and meaningful for the audience.
• Understanding that youth education is dynamic and requires flexibility.
• Willingness to work both indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather/conditions.
• Demonstrate an interest in and experience working with youth.
• Able to connect with a variety of audiences and communities.
• Able to follow directions and positively respond to feedback.
• Able to secure transportation to and from work, educational programs and events.
• Able to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
• Able to learn and use popular computer software (including, but not limited to, MS Word and Power Point).
• Able to work occasional evenings and weekends.
• Able to lift at least 20 lbs.
