Job Title: Camp Cook

Reports To: Camp Director - Board President 

Location: St. Francis Camp on the Lake

Duration: May 19 - August 8

Position Overview:

St. Francis Camp on the Lake is seeking a dedicated and passionate Camp Cook to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing and serving nutritious meals to campers and staff, ensuring food safety standards, and creating a welcoming kitchen environment. The Camp Cook will play a vital role in enhancing the camping experience through delicious and healthy food options.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Meal Preparation: Plan, prepare, and cook balanced meals for campers and staff, accommodating dietary restrictions and preferences.
  • Menu Planning: Collaborate with the Camp Director to develop seasonal menus that are nutritious, appealing, and cost-effective.
  • Food Safety: Maintain a high standard of food safety and sanitation in compliance with ServSafe guidelines. This includes proper food storage, handling, and cleanliness in the kitchen area.
  • Inventory Management: Manage kitchen inventory, including ordering supplies, tracking usage, and minimizing waste.
  • Kitchen Maintenance: Ensure the kitchen and dining areas are clean, organized, and well-maintained at all times.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with camp staff and volunteers to coordinate meal service and assist in training others in kitchen procedures.
  • Camper Engagement: Interact with campers during meal times to create a positive dining experience and gather feedback on meals.
  • Special Events: Assist in planning and executing special events and themed meals throughout the camp season.

Qualifications:

  • Certification in ServSafe Food Safety or equivalent food safety training.
  • Previous experience in a kitchen or food service environment, preferably in a camp or institutional setting.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Knowledge of nutrition and special dietary needs is a plus.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and communicate effectively.
  • Passion for working with children and creating a positive camp experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Capability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
