Position Overview

The SabaterLAB Clinical Training and Service Internship Program offers a 16-week experiential learning opportunity designed to prepare students for careers in psychology, mental health, and community service. This internship combines practical training, academic credit, and professional mentorship to help students build the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to excel in their chosen field.

  • Opportunities for interns to observe and participate in trauma-informed mental health services through SabaterLAB Community Care Mini Clinics.
  • Guidance from experienced supervisors committed to fostering student growth and professional development.

Responsibilities

Interns will:

  1. Participate in community projects, such as mental health awareness events and outreach initiatives.
  2. Assist in facilitating bilingual Spanish and English programming to enhance inclusivity and accessibility.
  3. Attend and engage in seminars and training sessions, gaining exposure to diverse mental health approaches.
  4. Support data collection and analysis for community-based mental health research.
  5. Develop and present a poster or project exhibit as part of hallmark events like INTERN ESSAY EXHIBITS DAY.
  6. Collaborate on initiatives addressing trauma resilience and community care.

Qualifications and Essential Skills

  • Must be a current student at an accredited institution (e.g., Johnson & Wales University, Rhode Island College, William James College, etc.), eligible for academic credit.
  • Strong interest in psychology, mental health, social services, or community care.
  • Proficient organizational and communication skills.
  • Adaptability to work in a trauma-informed and diverse setting.
  • Spanish proficiency is preferred but not required.

Compensation and Benefits

  • This is an unpaid internship eligible for academic credit through the interns' respective institution.
  • Interns gain hands-on experience in clinical and community service settings.
  • Professional networking opportunities with licensed mental health practitioners and community leaders.
  • Certification of completion upon successful participation.

Supervision and Evaluation

Each intern will have a direct supervisor who will:

  • Provide consistent mentorship and guidance tailored to the intern's academic and professional goals.
  • Complete midterm and final evaluations required for academic grading.
  • Regularly communicate with the institution's Fieldwork/Internship Coordinator to ensure alignment with the program's objectives.

Additional Information

  • Orientation and pre-training are required before starting.
  • Interns must abide by SabaterLAB and SabaterLAB Foundation policies and their institution’s Student Code of Conduct.
  • Host site responsibilities include ensuring safety, providing orientation, and timely reporting of any issues.
