Duration: February 10, 2025 – April 11, 2025

Commitment: 5 hours/week

Compensation: $25/hr, 20 hours per month 

Location: Fully remote (consult with a NY-based team in NY working hours)

The Opportunity
This internship is focused on the technical side of our operations, so no prior knowledge of finance is required. Financial exposure during the role will be minimal. As a Software Engineering Intern, you’ll contribute to the development of PeakSpan’s data-driven intelligence platforms, which ingest and analyze millions of data points daily. This internship provides hands-on experience in cutting-edge data engineering, machine learning, and data quality assurance projects.

Key Focus Areas

Data Engineering & Quality Assurance:

  • Design and maintain data pipelines for reliable data collection and transformation.
  • Develop systems for ensuring data quality, including automated monitoring tools and ML-based classifiers for identifying anomalies or errors.
  • Assist in building workflows for data labeling and preparation, ensuring high-quality datasets for machine learning models.
  • Document data processes to streamline analysis and ensure reproducibility.

Machine Learning:

  • Build, train, and deploy NLP models to extract insights from large-scale text data.
  • Develop and fine-tune ML models for tasks like recommendation systems, classification, and regression.
  • Contribute to workflows for labeling and curating training datasets, including the use of semi-supervised and unsupervised techniques for scalable data generation.
  • Implement feedback loops, tuning procedures, and continuous delivery infrastructure to maintain model performance on live data.

What We’re Looking For

  • Enrolled in a Computer Science program (rising Junior/Senior preferred).
  • Coursework or experience in Machine Learning, Data Science, Statistics, or equivalent (grades will be requested).
  • Proficient in a scripting language (Python, R, JavaScript, or Perl).
  • Familiar with SQL (PostgreSQL preferred), Git, and Linux command-line tools.
  • Preferably skilled in LLM architectures like LangChain or have experience with RAG and tool calling architectures.
  • Strong attention to detail, communication skills, and a drive to tackle challenging topics.
  • Passion for data quality assurance and preparation for machine learning models.
  • Ability to code without reliance on LLMs.
  • Willing to share project samples during the application process.
  • Must have their own laptop.
