Employee will be assigned to the Division of Air Quality’s Air Monitoring program.   Under direction of the Assistant Director, employee will perform duties related to data processing, review and reporting to support federal regulations, guidelines and grant commitments for an ambient air monitoring program.

This work will include:

  • Ensure ambient air monitoring data are processed, reviewed, appropriately flagged (if needed), and reported in accordance with all state and federal rules, grant commitments, policy (including EPA’s Quality Assurance Handbook and validation templates, Quality Assurance Project Plans, and Standard Operating Procedures, and relevant guidance.
  • Check daily data reports, and automated calibration check results.
  • Coordinate and communicate with field operators across the state, air monitoring contract laboratories, data analysts, and the assistant director of the section, to ensure air monitoring programmatic goals are met.
  • Develop and/or review standard operating procedures (SOPs) as needed, and assist in the development/review of quality assurance project plans (QAPPs).
  • Develop and maintain technical proficiency in in-house spreadsheets and databases, and proprietary software to review, quality assure, and report ambient air quality data.
  • Prepare air monitoring reports, including graphs and tables, for use in internal reviews, as well as for public documents.

Ideal candidate qualities:

  • Position requires regular communications with co-workers, including field personnel, and Assistant Director.
  • Must have strong communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to prioritize and implement plans timely, seeking appropriate input and direction.
  • Strong computer skills using spreadsheets for calculations and tracking.
  • Regular attendance is an essential part of this position.
  • Database experience/knowledge preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of basic computer operation and capabilities.
  • Knowledge of agency function and operations.
  • Knowledge of arithmetic and algebra.
  • Ability to learn the specific program to which assigned.
  • Ability to learn computer programs, such as Microsoft SQL server-based AirVision software.
  • Ability to analyze figures and to determine cause of irregularities.
  • Ability to read and understand technical material.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Minimum Qualifications

 

Training:  Successful completion of twelve hours of computer science.

Substitution: Two years of experience as listed below may substitute for the required training.

 
Experience: One year of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in data or word processing including the creation of spreadsheets.

Substitution: Completion of a recognized course in computer science, computer programming, or data processing from an accredited business or vocational school may substitute for both the training and experience requirements.
OR
Additional college hours in computer science, business, mathematics, or communication may substitute through an established formula for the required experience.

 

Other Information

 

Preference will be given to a qualified candidate with a four-year degree, in a computer science field and/or experience in advanced PC-based software application including spreadsheets, databases, programming, macro compilations and PC hardware installation and troubleshooting.

PG:  9     $31,533 - $53,916

Market Rate: $48,122
