Student laboratory assistant
The Microbial Ecosystems Lab directed by Dr. Kelly Wrighton of Colorado State University is hiring one undergraduate lab technician starting February 2025. This position will be approximately 10-15 hours per week and involve hands-on laboratory work. The student will primarily assist with preparation of microbiological media for the enrichment and isolation of environmental microorganisms from permafrost systems. There are opportunities for summer work and expansion of position duties depending on employee performance.
Duties:
- Preparation of complex microbiological media
- General laboratory maintenance including cleaning and dishes
- Maintenance of aerobic and anaerobic microbial cultures
- Application of molecular techniques including PCR and gel electrophoresis
- Data entry and management using Microsoft Excel
- Miscellaneous duties in a laboratory setting
Preferred:
- Completion or concurrent enrollment in Microbiology (MIP 300)
- Experience with Microsoft Excel
This position runs from February 2025 - May 2025, with renewal opportunities for Summer 2025 and subsequent semesters. Must be able to work an estimated 10 hours per week on average.
