Content Acquisitions & Operations Summer Intern

OSITION TITLE:  Content Acquisitions & Operations Summer Intern (Hybrid, Paid) 

DEPARTMENT:  Content Acquisitions & Content Operations 

LOCATION: Arlington, VA or Boston, MA (Hybrid) 

STATUS:  Full-time, Summer 2025 

SUPERVISOR:  Sr. Director, Content Partnerships  

 

PBS Distribution (PBSd)* is a leading distributor of public media content around the world, entertaining audiences across platforms and formats. The company, a joint venture of PBS and GBH Boston, provides premium content through multiple digital channels and video services.  PBS Distribution operates seven subscription streaming channels — PBS Masterpiece (US and CA), PBS KIDS, PBS Living, PBS Documentaries (US and CA) and PBS America (U.K.)  as well as numerous Free Ad-supported Streaming TV (FAST) Channels in the U.S and U.K.  In addition, the company reaches viewers through Transactional Video-on-Demand (TVOD), Subscription Video-on-Demand (SVOD) licensing, Advertising-based Video on Demand (AVOD), DVD and Blu-ray, theatrical releasing, educational platforms, non-theatrical and inflight sales, and serves broadcasters and producers providing program sales and co-production financing.

INTERNSHIP OBJECTIVES: 

The Content Acquisitions and Content Operations Intern will gain a foundational knowledge of how the departments function within PBS Distribution to achieve and exceed company goals. This person will gain an understanding of the content lifecycle starting with research and acquisitions, PBSd’s lines of business, content performance metrics, and the importance of building relationships with key producing partners.   

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Conduct market research on the current international drama and factual supply chain.  

Participate in early screening and recommendation process for incoming content. 

Assist with tracking editorial deadlines with internal stakeholders.  

Pull and analyze data from PBS Distribution’s media performance tracking systems including Power BI to prepare for portfolio performance reviews with producing partners.       

Join content reviews, pitch, and partnership meetings with filmmakers, producers, and distributors as a notetaker, and identify follow-up and action items.   

Communicate timing of program launches to producing partners.    

Other projects and duties as assigned.  

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Media Studies, Film Studies, Communications, or similar major 

Rising Junior or Senior (Undergraduate) 

Experience or interest in television and media production preferred  

Proficiency in the following Microsoft Office software (Outlook, SharePoint, Teams, Word) 

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint  

Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills 

Detail-oriented, excellent organization and note-taking skills 

Ability to manage and prioritize project workflow in a fast-paced environment 

Strong initiative and follow through 

Basic familiarity with PBS programming preferably across children’s content, documentaries, and dramas
