Position Summary

An Accountant at Minnkota Power Cooperative is responsible for maintaining the accounting and property records for Minnkota Power Cooperative, Square Butte Electric Cooperative, Northern Municipal Power Agency, and Great Plains Tower Services. This position is also responsible for managing the ERM system financial modules and performing various auditing and tax duties.

 

Essential Responsibilities

1. Process and Maintain Accounting Records

a. Complete calculations and reconciliations to support accounting entries and records

b. Prepare and send accounts receivable invoices

c. Analyze accounts for non-payment and coordinate steps to collect

d. Reconcile various Trial Balance accounts

e. Prepare and submit tax reports and forms

f. Prepare Minnkota Power capital credit allocations

g. Oversee tariff and cost of service studies

h. Support document and record retention

 

2. Manage and Maintain Asset Records

a. Close capital projects into property records

b. Maintain asset records and depreciation schedules

c. Work with project managers to determine capital versus expense projects

d. Work with portfolio-project manager on construction work plans

 

3. Process Cooperative Power Bills

a. Oversee cooperative power bills

b. Complete annual changes to billing units and rates

c. Work with Energy Marketing on Renewable Energy Credits

 

4. Manage Financial Modules in ERM System

a. Open and close accounting periods

b. Reconcile subledgers to General Ledger and correct any issues

c. Review transportation allocation

d. Troubleshoot errors in IFS with the assistance of the IT department

 

5. Perform Auditing Duties

a. Perform coal contract and retirement plan audits

b. Provide documentation for the annual audit of financial statements

c. Provide support and documentation for grant requests and audits

 

6. Retirement Plan Administration Assistance

 

Goals and Objectives

An employee filling this role is expected to meet changing and unique goals and objectives, as established by their supervisor, related to the broader area in which the employee is assigned.

 

Education and Experience

· Position requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting. A CPA license is desirable but not required.

· Three to five years’ experience in general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable and fixed asset accounting.

· Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
