Court Clerk

Position Summary: 

The 38th District Court is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented individual to fill the position of Court Clerk/Cashier. This position involves processing court-related financial transactions, maintaining accurate records, and providing administrative support to the court. Performs basic, routine, clerical tasks related to criminal, civil, traffic cases, record keeping, processing and maintaining documents, reports, files, and correspondence, and other duties assigned by the Chief Judge, Court Administrator or Supervisor.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and be able to handle sensitive information with integrity and professionalism.

Essential Job Functions: 

  • Process payments for fines, costs fees, and other court-related transactions via cash, credit card, and certified funds.
  • Accurately reconcile and balance cash drawers daily.
  • Maintain records of all financial transactions, ensuring compliance with court policies and procedures.
  • Provide assistance to the public at the cashier’s window, answering questions related to fines, fees, and case information.
  • Assist with clerical duties, including filing, data entry, and case management.
  • Communicate effectively with court staff, attorneys, and the public.
  • Prepare reports and ensure all financial data is accurately recorded in the court’s management system.
  • Handle confidential information with discretion and in accordance with court policies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Court Administrator or Supervisor.
  • Print daily generated notices

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Minimum Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or GED required, one (1) or two (2) years of education beyond high school preferred along with course work in accounting, finance, or a related field preferred.
  • Prior experience in cashiering, bookkeeping, or a clerical role, preferably in a legal or government setting.
  • JIS experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and software, including Microsoft Office and financial management systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in cash handling and record-keeping.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, both in person and over the phone.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with the utmost professionalism.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
