Communications Intern

Principal Function: This Community Relations position supports the communication branch of the Town of Brownsburg. It involves assisting with multimedia development, outreach, and strategic planning to promote community engagement and special events. The role requires proficiency in graphic design and strong writing skills. The Communications Intern works closely with all Town departments, Brownsburg residents and businesses, elected officials, and volunteer and nonprofit organizations

Tentative Start: May 16, 2025

Tentative End: August 22, 2025

Hours: 40 hours/ week, Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Candidates must submit a portfolio of work (web link or PDF) that includes class or personal projects for consideration.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Photograph special events
  • Develop creative concepts and communication plans for special projects.
  • Blog creation for electronic and print media outlets (website, blog, email, and print). Research, image collection, write, edit, and publish stories;
  • Design artistic, visual communications, including organizational graphics, digital and print material and social media graphics, guides, and flyers to inform and call to action.
  • Plan, create, and schedule external digital content for web, social media and other channels and edit photo/video for communication purposes.
  • Setup and execution of Town events.
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned or required.

Requirements

 

Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a degree in Communications/Public Relations, Visual Design, Marketing or related field;
  • Completion of at least one year of undergraduate studies, preferred;
  • A general understanding of AP-style writing, preferred;
  • Experience in graphic design, photo and video editing.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Strong management and customer service skills;
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and deadlines;
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and ability to learn new software programs as necessary to job functions;
  • Must have vehicle to use for travel during work hours for photo and video shoots or to pick up/drop off promotional materials;
  • Ability to attend some events outside of work hours (nights and weekends).
