Marketing and Social Media Intern
Overview
Are you a State Fair lover with a knack for creating content? The Marketing & Communications department is hiring an intern for the summer of 2025! The Marketing & Social Media Intern will assist with creating social media content and community management of social media channels for the Minnesota State Fair. In addition to social media, this position will assist with working with the media, guest and information services support and the production of marketing materials.

Position Overview
- Assist with creating content for the State Fair's social media channels, including writing posts, taking photos, editing videos, etc.
- Respond to guest questions and inquiries via community management platform and email.
- Monitor State Fair channels and social media content related to State Fair, identifying when to escalate as needed to appropriate staff.
- Manage documentation & analytics of guest inquiry reports and growth of social media channels.
- Assist with preparation of marketing materials for annual New Foods, Specialty Sips and New at the Fair announcements while maintaining confidentiality.
- Support all department areas where needed, including proofreading and editing written materials, administrative duties, etc. Tasks may include working with the media, guest and information services support, advertising support, etc.
- Assist with tasks as assigned by immediate supervisor, other marketing department staff.
- Daily schedule from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with extended hours Aug. 21 to Sept. 1. Room for flexibility as needed.
- Seasonal position beginning with option for full or part-time hours in May/June, transitioning to full-time hours in July/August through Labor Day.
- During peak activity times, work extra daily hours and periods with no days off.
Requirements
- Experience creating social media content in a professional setting.
- Working toward or completed a bachelor's degree in journalism, marketing, advertising, communications or related area of study.
- Knowledge of AP Style.
- Outstanding organizational, editing and proofing skills with strong attention to detail and an ability to multi-task.
- Computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience working in a customer service environment.
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to perform various duties with specialized attention to the fact that the information, decisions and communication involved may be sensitive or confidential.
- Ability to stay calm, efficient and effective in high-pressure and fast-paced situations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Available to work all 12 days of the State Fair, Aug. 21 – Labor Day, Sept. 1, 2025.
- Valid driver's license.
- Experience with photography and/or video creation and editing.
- Knowledge of the local media market.
- Previous experience using software programs such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite and other social media tools.
