Eagle Hill School Director of Research and Instruction

Job Title: Director of Research and Instruction

Duration: 12 Month Employment Year, Renewable Annually 

 

Purpose: The Director of Research and Instruction, an inaugural position, will work closely with the Head of School to lead the development, implementation, and ongoing refinement of Eagle Hill School’s (EHS) educational program. This includes assessing and advancing the curriculum, driving research on innovative instructional practices, and leading curricular improvements. The Director will also collaborate with the Associate Head of School to establish systems to monitor and report on student progress, design and oversee professional development initiatives, and create an evaluation program tailored to both new and veteran teachers. Additionally, the Director will generate the growth of diverse outreach programs to further enrich the school community. As Eagle Hill celebrates its 50th anniversary, the school is entering an exciting chapter in its history. With new Head of School Gretchen Larkin at the helm, this is a wonderful time to join the community. The Director will report directly to the Head of School and serve as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team.

Reports to: Head of School 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

 

Take the lead in coordinating the overall educational program, including spearheading research on innovative instructional strategies for students with learning differences, developing specialized curricula to support their needs, assessing program effectiveness and managing scheduling. Collaborate with faculty, staff and external experts to enhance instructional practices. 

Ensure that academic programs are accessible, evidence based and personalized to meet the diverse needs of our students. 

Stay informed about the latest research-based and proven techniques for addressing the unique needs of students with learning differences, including the use of adaptive technology, and identify the approaches that best support the students at EHS.  

Forge partnerships with leading universities specializing in neuroscience and learning differences to enhance educational practices and support student success. 

Collaborate with faculty to ensure each department actively engages in continuous self-evaluation and improvement, utilizes updated materials and techniques, and maintains high standards of instructional quality. 

Work with the advisory team to lead the scheduling process and overall academic schedule. 

 

With the Associate Head of School, lead efforts in observation, collaboration, supervision, and staff development to support the professional growth of each faculty member and enhance instructional practices within the EHS program. 

Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and external experts, to enhance instructional practices and empower EHS students to achieve academic success. 

In collaboration with the administration and faculty to develop observation tools that deliver targeted feedback to teachers, and regularly assess these tools to ensure they provide the most effective support for faculty development.  

Observe faculty across both school divisions, hold one-on-one meetings to discuss strengths and areas for growth in instruction and classroom management, and identify faculty experts who can serve as resources for their colleagues. 

Design and implement training programs to enhance faculty instructional strategies for students with learning differences, while providing ongoing supervision and support to ensure effective application of these programs. 

Assess the effectiveness of instructional practices and provide detailed reports on findings to the Head of School. 

 

Effectively prioritize job responsibilities, manage professional time, and set clear, achievable goals for continuous growth. 

Conduct an annual self-reflection to establish personal professional goals and collaborate with the Head of School to align these goals with ongoing professional development. 

Take on additional responsibilities as assigned, including a range of administrative and logistical tasks. 

 

Expected Credentials: 

 

The Director of Research and Instruction should hold both a bachelor's and a master's degree  

A strong background in special education and/or language-based learning differences is essential. 

The ideal candidate will have at least 8 years of significant experience in school leadership and administration. 

State certification in special education or literacy and administration is preferred but is not required.
