Job Responsibilities 

The Department of Genetics and Development is seeking a candidate for a full-time lab Technician B position for 1-2 years. The candidate will be reporting directly to the Principal Investigator. Specific responsibilities will include but are not limited to:  Drosophila stock-changing; Drosophila husbandry and genetics; molecular biology; Western blots; general research support, including preparing solutions, setting up and calibrating equipment, and maintaining lab safety; routine quality control measurements and cleaning to ensure compliance to all regulatory requirements; careful records of experiments, data entry, and data backup; training of personnel in the use of equipment and research technologies; and other related duties as required.

20% maintenance of Drosophila stocks and general fly husbandry;

40% general research support, including ordering lab supplies, maintaining equipment, and maintaining lab safety;

40% experimental research, including design, performance, and data analysis

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Physics or related science or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. 

Additional Qualifications

Also required:  excellent writing, interpersonal, and communication skills; high level of organization; attention to detail; time management skills; motivation and dedication to research work; proficiency in working with computers, standard office and lab software, databases; ability to work in a highly independent and self-directed manner as well as in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Drosophila husbandry and genetics, as well as experience with managing a medium-sized Drosophila stock collection is preferred but not required.
