Youth Development Specialist

About Us: The YWCA Youth Development Department empowers youth by providing national best-practice teen pregnancy prevention programs in Toledo Public Schools and Allen County. Our efforts have made a significant impact, contributing to a nearly 50% drop in teen birth rates in Lucas County. Despite this progress, teen pregnancy remains a challenge for area youth, leading to increased poverty, school dropout rates, low educational attainment, and health issues.

Role Overview: We are seeking a dedicated Youth Development Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will teach youth essential life skills, including leadership, emotional, and social skills, to help them develop healthy behaviors. You will deliver comprehensive sexuality education programs, fostering resiliency, refusal skills, and goal setting among students. Your work will support our mission to promote healthy lifestyle education and empower youth to make responsible and healthy choices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver pregnancy prevention programming using creative teaching methods.
  • Plan and report on lessons and activities.
  • Work with middle and high school youth, including girls, boys, and their families.
  • Provide after-school programming and transportation as needed.
  • Collaborate with schools, parents, and the community to promote healthy lifestyle education.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of an Associate's degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Teaching youth experience.
  • Experience with lesson planning .
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Must be at least 21 years old with a good driving record.
