Overview of the internship site: Are you interested in participating in a collaborative research team working to improve maternal-child health in Indiana? The Regenstrief Institute and IU Fairbanks School of Public Health have several ongoing research projects that use electronic medical records to study outcomes for patients with diabetes, hypertension, and other medical conditions. In this internship, you will become part of a large team working to improve maternal child health in Indiana, specifically related to Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome, Congenital Syphilis, and stillbirths. Students will conduct chart reviews to evaluate case definitions, participate in literature reviews, analyze data, generate ideas to improve maternal child health in Indiana, and assist with the dissemination of results and public health messages to relevant groups. This may include posters, abstracts, manuscripts or infographics.
Interns will be supervised by multiple individuals, including Dr. Brian Dixon, the program manager, and project managers working at the Institute. This experience will result in being part of a team science structure common in most laboratories. Interns will also have the opportunity to learn about the broader work of the organization and its partners, including the Marion County Public Health Department and Indiana Department of Health.
