Position | Events and Programs Intern 

Time | April 2024 - September 2025 

Hours | 40 hours per week, in-person  

Compensation | $20 per hour  

Mission 

The mpls downtown council (mdc) mission is creating an extraordinary downtown through leadership, collaboration, advocacy, and innovation. Founded in 1955 and the mpls downtown council is one of the oldest central business district associations in the nation, the mpls downtown council produces such cherished Minneapolis events and programming throughout the year. 

The mpls downtown council partners with various organizations and community groups to produce events throughout the whole year. Our summer roster of events includes Pianos on Parade, Go Outside with Hennepin County, Nicollet Programming and Aquatennial which is the Official Civic Celebration for the City of Minneapolis.  

General responsibilities may include:   

  • On-site Event Staff for all mpls downtown council produced events.  
  • Manage event volunteer recruitment process for all events. 
  • Volunteer management on site at all events.  
  • Logistics support for event operations as needed. 
  • Compile all necessary supplies and materials for events.  
  • Assist with sponsor and volunteer appreciation efforts, including thank you materials.  
  • Entertainment stage programming and management. 
  • Develop and manage inclusive activities for various downtown mpls programming locations including development of games, activities, and on-site event support.  
  • Maintain a best practices binder. 
  • Maintain an entertainment and activity database.  
  • Other duties as assigned.  

Qualifications: 

  • Experience in on-site event execution.  
  • Experience in working with vendors or volunteers.   
  • Physical demands, ability to lift 25 lbs, stand for extended periods of time and work in various weather elements.  

Candidate Competencies:  

  • Ability to take initiative on projects and provide creative problem-solving skills.  
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and respond to changing needs.  
  • Solid organizational skills.  
  • Solid communication skills, both written and oral.  
  • Ability to work independently without supervisor present and within a team environment.  
  • Proficient in MS Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.  
  • Working knowledge of Adobe creative suite is a plus but not required.  
  • Willingness to roll up their sleeves to deliver on organizational commitments including occasional nights and weekends.
