California Air Resources Board's (CARB) Aftermarket Diesel and Off-Road Section (ADORS) within the Emissions Certification and Compliance Division is looking for an enthusiastic, creative, highly motivated, and organized Air Resources Engineer (ARE) to support the aftermarket programs. ADORS is at the forefront of assessing innovative aftermarket products, including EV conversions, alternative fuel conversion, hybrid conversions, large spark ignition retrofits, diesel retrofits, and other aftermarket technologies (e.g., off-road aftermarket parts, performance part, telematics devices, etc.) as far as their compliance with the various regulations and procedures that ADORS is responsible for implementing and supporting. Under supervision of the section manager, Engineers in the section evaluate designs and test data of aftermarket parts and retrofit systems. They will perform engineering evaluations to determine the effect of performance parts on emissions, analyze vehicle/engine emission data, prepare reports and other technical documentation for approval, develop pertinent engineering test procedures for emission compliance testing and prepare necessary correspondences and guidelines to applicants. Evaluation of parts may also involve review of manufacturer durability test plans, on-board diagnostics II (OBD II) compliance, and impact on vehicle auxiliary emission control devices. Engineers in this section also support the Verification database, conduct warranty report reviews, support the warranty database, support potential recall activities, and may conduct audits relating to aftermarket diesel particulate filters. Engineers in the section may be assigned to assist in the development of new regulations pertaining to emerging aftermarket areas.
