Dates:                              8 weeks; June 2-July 27th preferred start and end dates, but flexible!

Pay:                                    $3000                  

Reports to:                      Director of Student Ministries

ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW

STUDENT MINISTRY INTERN OVERVIEW

Our mission is to welcome all families into loving, Christ-centered relationships where they can connect with God’s amazing love and be empowered to transform the world.  St. Luke’s serves hundreds of children and youth from birth through college and young adult age through multiple worship experiences and activities that are age appropriate. 

The goal of the Student Ministry Internship is for students to apply information learned through college coursework/instruction in hands-on experience in student ministry.

RESPONSIBILITIES

REGULAR TASKS AND EXPECTATIONS 

  • Work on personal leadership goals for the summer, checking in weekly with Director of Student Ministries
  • Work with the Director of Student Ministries to create age-appropriate environments where the experience for students is welcoming, inclusive, and growing.
  • Lead various aspects of Sunday morning programming—announcements, worship, crowd breakers, games, etc. as needed
  • Attend Summer Connection Events or other summer fellowships with students
  • Attending weekly Youth Ministry staff meetings and Staff Chapel
  • Connect with students, families, and volunteers and provide support as needed
  • Hold regular office hours, carrying out various administrative tasks as necessary
  • Participate in other areas as assigned by the youth ministry staff

 

SUMMER PROJECTS

  • Develop skills as individually identified. This might include:
    • Plan for, prepare, and deliver a message and/or teaching series.
    • Participate in greater church activities, beyond youth ministry, in order to grow in awareness of church happenings based upon interest of the applicant.
    • Shadow another ministry’s staff on a Sunday morning or other programmatic time
    • Attend a hospital call or care visit with a pastor or staff
    • Develop administrative skillsets. This might include developing the ministry’s weekly newsletter, learning how to budget, etc.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of Middle School Mayhem, a week-long day camp for students in 5th-8th grade (June 16-20)
  • Option to attend and help lead HS Camp (June 22-27)
  • Help organize and attend the Youth Mission Trip (July 13-18)

EQUIPPING

  • College level instruction in youth ministry or an applicable field
  • Familiarity with youth ministry issues and teen issues
  • Spiritually maturing Christian; servant-minded, teachable, and with high integrity
  • Energetic, caring, dependable, positive, and great people skills
  • Professional as it relates to boundaries with teens and personal information
  • Complete and pass a criminal background check.
  • Attend a Safe Sanctuaries Training course provided by St. Luke’s UMC Staff.
