A day in the life of a summer camp counselor can look like:

  • Making memories with campers with disabilities when swimming, visiting the horse barn and singing campfire songs!
  • Laughing with your co-workers as you learn about yourself, develop your skills and abilities, expand your patience and make an unforgettable impact on the lives of children with disabilities!

Camp Cheerful is a beautiful 52 acre facility that is part of the well-respected Achievement Centers for Children (ACC). Since 1940 ACC has been empowering children and adults with disabilities and their families to achieve their greatest potential. Located in the Mill Steam Run Reservation of the Cleveland Metroparks in Strongsville, Ohio, Camp Cheerful provides campers all the traditional camp activities including: hiking, swimming, fishing, canoeing, arts and crafts, nature study activities, games, campfire activities, music, sports, visits to our horse barn, and memories that will last a lifetime!

The Details:

  • A weekly stipend of $450 per week - may increase dependent on experience
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Previous camp experience or experience with children with disabilities is a plus, but not a requirement!
  • Counselors work Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am-5:00 pm.
  • Staff Training:
    • Including CPR, First Aid and AED certification, Crisis Prevention, and Intervention certification, lots of information about disabilities and abilities, and how to be a GREAT summer camp counselor! Training week May 28th-June 6th. Day Camp June 9th through August 15th.
  • Cheerful Day Campers are between the ages of 5 to 22 with and without disabilities.
  •  
    • We serve a wide range of disabilities including cognitive, physical, developmental, and neurological.
    • We provide a 1 counselor to 3 camper ratio
