This position is for Public Health Services

The Health & Human Services Agency has current vacancies for Social Services Aides. Some positions require applicants to be fluent in the Spanish language.
Social Services Aides are responsible for providing support services directly to customers and staff assigned to various programs within the County's Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA). The position requires excellent customer service with duties such as interviewing, linking to community resources, translating, and data entry. Some positions may require technical work such as specimen collection and/ or directly observed therapy.
Additional duties include assisting clients and the public by explaining procedures and programs such as health principles, social services or advising on available resources to meet their needs; representing clients unable to represent themselves in obtaining community resources; and performing a variety of routine tasks to support staff.
Due to the fact that incumbents in the Social Services Aides classification assist clients in a variety of settings, they must be willing to travel throughout the County.

The current vacancies are in Medical Care Services and Public Health Services. The list established from this recruitment may also be used to fill future vacancies in other HHSA departments.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to relate effectively to diverse cultures and recipients of social services, flexible in adapting to changes in priorities and operational needs, able to function autonomously with minimal direction, team oriented and work cooperatively with others, able to drive and transport clients throughout the San Diego region, computer literate with basic clerical skills such as typing and filing, and have basic math skills. For Public Health Services, the ideal candidate will also be fluent in Spanish. The desired candidate will also have experience in social work or related experience with social issues or the homeless population.
QUALIFYING EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school or equivalent, and six (6) months of full-time experience caring for, and helping social services or health services clients, patients, or other individuals within a hospital, school, institution, or community-based agency.
HIRING PROCESS AND TIMELINE
The timeline for this recruitment is outlined below. Please note that dates are approximate and are dependent upon the successful completion of each step of the process.
- Job Offer and Background Process begins: Shortly after the interviews.
- Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
- Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of background or other mutually agreed upon date.

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT
As part of the County of San Diego’s pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Additional types of background investigations may be conducted based on the job-related activities of the position. Current County employees may be excluded from this process.
EVALUATION
Qualified applicants will be placed on a six (6) month employment list based on scores received during the evaluation of information contained in their employment and supplemental applications.
