Founded in 1881, the Staten Island Museum engages visitors with interdisciplinary exhibitions, public programs, and educational activities for all ages.
The Museum’s permanent collections contain natural science specimens, archival records, and works of art and design, which represents Staten Island’s natural and cultural history across time.

Public Programs Intern Overview
The Staten Island Museum seeks a Public Programs Intern (Intern) to support the planning and delivery of the Summer 2025 public programs schedule. Additionally, the Intern will conceptualize, develop and deliver a drop-in activity for the museum’s Earth Camp program.
The Staten Island Museum’s Internship program is designed to provide access to professional, mentored, outcome driven opportunities for individuals interested in pursuing careers in the cultural field. This is an excellent opportunity for a college student to gain meaningful experience doing mission centric work while developing pertinent skills for their career path.
Working under the supervision of the Director of Curatorial Affairs and Public Programs, the Intern will assist with research and development of public programs and play a key role in event production.
At the conclusion of the internship, the student will leave with practical knowledge of aspects of program development and production as well as other key operations.
Responsibilities
- Research and develop activities for future public programs.
- Prepare program materials and supplies.
- Communicate with program registrants and researchers.
- Play a primary role in producing public programs.
- Develop a proposal for a creative drop-in activity for Earth Campers and deliver the activity with the support of junior camp counselors.

Compensation
$22.50 per hour
INTERNS WILL WORK 28 HOURS PER WEEK AND ATTEND A MANDATORY OFFSITE PROGRAM DAY ONE DAY PER WEEK WITH THEIR COHORT.
Internship Period: June 4 – August 6
Total Weeks: 9 weeks
Work Hours per Week: 28
Total Hours: 252
Workdays: 4 days per week onsite, 9AM–5PM (This position supports some evening and weekend programming; the Intern will know the schedule in advance.)
PROGRAM DAY:
On Fridays, interns will attend an offsite program day with their cohort.
These hours are separate from the internship hours.
