Organization Overview:
The Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum operated by the Carousel Society of the Niagara Frontier, is a premier national historic site and community resource for family recreation and learning that fosters an appreciation for the unique heritage of the carousel and related industries in the Niagara region. Through educational, cultural, and recreational programming, visitors experience the places, people, stories, and artifacts associated with the production of carousels, band organs, and amusement devices.
Job Description:
The grant funded outreach educator will serve as a representative of the Herschell Carrousel Factory museum at the North Tonawanda Public Library and the Newstead Public Library. There is a travel stipend of 70 cents per mile. The educator will be responsible for preparing and conducting 1 hour STEM lesson plans for 7-12 year olds. The educator will work with groups between 2 and 30 students in informal educational settings. The educator will teach weekly lessons at one organization and bi-weekly lessons at the second organization. This position guarantees 20 hours per month for 10 months in a 1 year period.
Job Requirements:
- Availability on weeknights (Monday-Thursday 4pm-8pm and Fridays 3:30pm-5:30pm)
- Possess experience with children or education in a formal or informal setting.
- Background in education, STEM, history, or a related field
- Available 3-10 hours a week.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
- Reliable transportation (estimated travel is 45 miles per week and organizations are not on a bus route)
Preferred:
- Experience with NYS education standards
- Experience with using a lesson plan to conduct educational programming.
- Classroom management
Salary and Benefits:
This is a part-time grant funded position that is not eligible for benefits.
Salary is $18.00 per hour.
Location:
The museum is located in North Tonawanda, NY. The programming will take place at the North Tonawanda Public Library in North Tonawanda, NY. and the Newstead Public Library in Akron, NY.
