
Summer Intern - Bublr Bikes (SEJ Program)

Introduction:
Bublr Bikes (Bublr) is the Milwaukee area’s non-profit bikeshare operator committed to delivering a sustainable, excellent bikeshare system for all. Core to Bublr’s mission is a focus on access and equity with unique features such as availability of adaptive bikes, a youth job training program, and numerous community outreach efforts.
The Summer Intern will have the opportunity to assist in a variety of tasks in different departments. The Summer Intern will primarily report to the Sponsorship and Outreach Manager, but depending on the task, they will periodically report to the Director of Operations, User Experience Director, and Community Engagement Director. Additionally, the Summer Intern will have the opportunity to complete a summer-long project pertaining to the environmental and social impact of bikeshare in Milwaukee.
Essential Duties:
- Sponsorship and Outreach
- Assist with various external communications tasks (sponsorship outreach, fundraising campaigns, social media engagement).
- Research potential grants for Bublr to apply to. The Summer Intern may also be asked to apply for grants when applicable.
- Weekly report to the Sponsorship and Outreach Manager.
- Community Engagement
- Research opportunities for community engagement in Milwaukee and table for Bublr Bikes at events (passing out promotional materials, educating the public about bikeshare, etc.).
- Plan, promote, and hold Savvy Cycling classes, classes where community members can learn more about how to use the Bublr System and ride safely on city streets. Focusing on marginalized (BIPOC, young people, older adults, people with disabilities) communities which lack access to resources. Be able to teach people how to ride Bublr Bikes if needed.
- Promoting and educating the community about the Bublr Access Pass, a free pass that provides unlimited 60-minute Bublr trips for income-qualified people living in Milwaukee County. Be aware of rules and regulations of the road for people riding bikes or walking and work on a more efficient connection with Milwaukee's MCTS (Milwaukee County Transit System).
- Operations
- Assist with bike maintenance and assembly (e-bikes, classic bikes, and adaptive bikes).
- Assist with bike station installation.
- If the Summer Intern expresses specific interest in bike maintenance, they may choose to spend more time learning how to repair and assemble bikes.
- Assist with general office cleanup.
- User Experience
- Assist with customer service requests and log requests in Excel.
- Send daily emails to users who have been approved for the Access Pass, the free Bublr pass for income-qualified residents of Milwaukee County.
- Independent Project
- The Summer Intern may choose to partake in a summer-long research project pertaining to the environmental and social impact of bikeshare in Milwaukee. The result of the project may be added to Bublr’s website and annual report and may be used to further community engagement/fundraising goals.

- Given the Bublr is a small, local nonprofit it is also important that potential applicants are passionate about bikeshare, love their work, and are willing to pitch in as a team member when the organization needs “all hands-on deck.” During particularly busy peak summer weekends, we may all help cover the overflow of operational tasks to help perpetuate the desired user experience.

Compensation:
This internship is part of the Lawrence University Social & Environmental Justice Cohort, which provides an opportunity for Lawrentians to explore social and environmental justice impact careers, gain professional experience, and develop as leaders. Students complete a full-time summer 2025 internship with an identified social and/or environmental justice impact organization in Milwaukee or Appleton, while participating in ongoing reflection with fellow students, Professor Jason Brozek, the Career Center, community leaders and alumni. Students may apply for as many positions as they are qualified for and interested in. Each student in the SEJ program will receive a $5k stipend to help cover housing and transportation costs and living expenses.
