Internship Overview
The Land Stewardship, Communications & Data Development Intern will work closely with the Conservation Director and Communications Coordinator to support land stewardship, acquisition, marketing, and data development projects. This role provides hands-on experience in environmental conservation, database management, communications, and content creation, offering exposure to both technical and creative aspects of non-profit operations.
This internship is ideal for students eager to combine skills in environmental research, data management, and communications to amplify the mission and impact of the Northeast Wisconsin Land Trust.
Key Responsibilities
1. Land Stewardship & Acquisition Support
Assist in data entry, organization, and updating land stewardship records, including property ownership, conservation easements, and surveys (CRM systems, GIS software, spreadsheets).
Conduct research on land acquisition opportunities, landowner outreach, and legal documents (e.g., deeds, easements, title reports). Summarize findings and assist in report preparation.
Digitize and organize documents related to land stewardship projects, ensuring files are accessible and well-maintained.
2. Communications, Marketing & Social Media Development
Develop, implement, and maintain engaging content for social media platforms, email newsletters, and marketing campaigns to amplify the Land Trust’s mission.
Collaborate to gather requirements and update website content (text, images, videos) while ensuring alignment with organizational goals. Conduct periodic website audits for relevance and accuracy.
Assist in the integration of new technologies or tools to enhance website user experience. Research best practices for non-profit marketing and web development trends.
Support graphic design projects and content creation, utilizing tools like Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator) or Canva.
3. Project Support & Collaboration
Assist in preparing materials for stewardship reports, grant applications, and outreach communications.
Provide support for virtual and in-person community events or field activities as needed.
Collaborate across teams, ensuring clear communication and alignment on shared goals.
Qualifications
Education:
Currently pursuing a degree in fields such as Environmental Studies, Environmental Science, Business, Communications, Marketing, Computer Science, or other related liberal arts disciplines.
Skills:
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills for data management and documentation.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and Google Workspace.
Familiarity with GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS) or website development tools (WordPress, HTML, CSS) is a plus, but not required.
Basic knowledge of graphic design tools (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a creative problem-solving mindset.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Compensation:
This internship is part of the Lawrence-Funded internship program. The student selected for this internship will receive a $5k stipend to help cover housing and transportation costs and living expenses.
