This job description outlines the position of Advocacy Intern at Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region. The primary responsibilities of this role include researching and providing written content for the organization’s website, newsletters, and blogs to support consistent advocacy messaging. The intern will also assist in organizing advocacy events, support outreach efforts, and participate in advocacy training and community engagement activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a professional and respectful attitude when interacting with others, including team members, volunteers, and the public.
  • Collaborate with grassroots organizations and elected officials on advocacy efforts related to affordable housing.
  • Assist in the planning and logistics of advocacy training sessions.
  • Research issues related to affordable housing and homeownership, contributing to the development of written content for the website, newsletters, and other communication channels.
  • Accompany the advocacy team to public meetings and community events.
  • Participate in various other advocacy tasks as needed, working independently or with the team.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required; some college education or relevant experience is preferred.
  • Strong writing skills and an interest in advocacy, particularly on issues related to affordable housing and homeownership.
  • Ability to multitask, work independently, and stay organized.
  • Comfort with public speaking and using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Willingness to engage with advocacy issues and contribute to related campaigns.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • The internship will involve office work with the use of personal computers, phones, and some in-person interactions.
  • The ability to work in a collaborative environment with varying levels of noise and physical demands, including sitting for extended periods and managing written documents.
