Join our team at the Cedar Rapids VA CBOC as a Licensed Practical Nurse and make a difference in the lives of our nation's Veterans! We're seeking a compassionate and skilled LPN to provide high-quality care in our state-of-the-art outpatient facility.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provides nursing cares such as: medication administration, obtaining/recording vital signs, check/restock supplies, perform delegated procedures and timely complete documentation.
- Recognizes urgent or emergent patient care situations and seeks assistance from other team members to perform optimal care.
- Provides education to patient and patients family members
- Prepares and administers medications and vaccines in a safe manner
- Adheres to principles of infection control, safety and universal precautions - creating a safe environment for patients, families and co-workers
- Recognizes and responds to breakage/malfunctions or loss of equipment, safety hazards, and supply deficiencies
- Provide full range of practical nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavioral problems, completing assigned duties which involve performing nonstandard and specialized practical nursing activities under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
- Complete clinical reminders and reports of data findings to clinician, provider, or RN.
- Laboratory experience preferred, but not required.
Required Qualifications:
- You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this job. Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Training provided.
- All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
- Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
- You may be required to serve a probationary period.
- Subject to background/security investigation.
- Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
- Must pass pre-employment physical examination/evaluation.
- Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
- Participation in the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination program is a requirement for all Veterans Health Administration Health Care Personnel (HCP) - See "Additional Information" below for details.
Education and Licensure Requirements:
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
- Education: Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and/or the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (Formerly: National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission).
- Licensure: Full, active, current, and unrestricted licensure as a licensed practical or vocational nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or District of Columbia.
