Marketing and Event Intern

Position Overview

Cancer Support Community Iowa & NW Illinois is seeking a motivated and creative Marketing and Event Intern to assist in enhancing our outreach efforts and event coordination. This is a fantastic opportunity for students or individuals passionate about nonprofit work, marketing, and community engagement to gain hands-on experience while making a meaningful impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Marketing Support:
    • Design and create engaging flyers, social media posts, and promotional materials to increase awareness of events and programs.
    • Develop and schedule content for social media platforms to build a consistent and engaging online presence.
    • Assist in drafting and executing e-mail campaigns to promote events, programs, and organizational updates.
    • Assist in the creation, editing, and distribution of the monthly program calendar to ensure it accurately reflects upcoming events and programs.
    • Collaborate with program staff to gather accurate details and updates for the calendar.
  • Event Planning Assistance:
    • Support the Event and Communications Manager in all aspects of event planning and execution, including logistics, vendor coordination, and volunteer management.
    • Help maintain event timelines, checklists, and budgets to ensure smooth execution.
    • Assist with on-site event activities, such as registration, setup, and breakdown, as needed.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Coordinate with staff, volunteers, and external stakeholders to support marketing and event initiatives.
    • Gather feedback from participants and stakeholders to improve future events and campaigns.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing or holding a degree in Marketing, Communications, Event Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Proficient in social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok etc.).
  • Basic graphic design skills and familiarity with tools like Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • A passion for making a difference in the lives of individuals impacted by cancer.
