LHSI Intern: Community Pediatrics Podcast

Program Summary:  

This internship is offered as a part of the Life-Health Sciences Internship Program (LHSI). This program connects 125 IUI undergraduates per year with internships on campus with faculty and staff in a variety of health and science related campus areas/programs. All LHSI internships start in August 2025 and end in May 2026 and are paid $13/hour for up to 10 hours per week. Work-study is accepted but not required.

Department/Office: Riley Hospital for Children; Community Pediatrics

Overview of the internship site: Community Pediatrics includes advocacy for children and adolescents in partnership with local community based organizations. Kids Healthcast is a pediatric podcast for health education and advocacy. Student helps edit episodes and supports podcast project. Kids Healthcast is a pediatric resident project that was started in 2010. The podcast is an advocacy project for pediatric "Community Pediatrics" is a resident physician rotation that engages with the community for advocacy, health education and family support to improve the healthy and well-being of children. Resident physicians participate in service-learning projects during the rotation and one of those projects is Kids Healthcast podcast.  The LHSI intern will work with the resident physicians to support the podcast health education project. The LHSI intern will also have opportunities to participation in other service learning experiences that are associated with the Community Pediatrics rotation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Duties would include recording and editing podcast episodes and helping support the podcast project. Depending on the applicants interests, we also need help with podcast promotion via social media and other avenues. Support would be given to the applicant while learning how to edit episodes if the applicant is not already familiar with the process. Applicants could also help develop content and assist with recording if they have interest in this aspect of the podcast project. There are additional opportunities in community pediatric advocacy and education with the pediatrics residency rotation depending on the interests of the intern selected.

Work Environment and Dress Code: The work is performed primarily in an office setting with dress code casual/professional

Hours per week: flexible based on student needs (10 maximum), scheduling is flexible within regular work hours

Project-specific qualifications: Flexibility and training for Intern with interest in project.

Majors Preferred: Computer and Information Science , Health Information Administration, Journalism / English / Technical Communication, Health Sciences

LHSI Qualifications  

·        must be graduating May 2027 or after (usually a current freshman or sophomore in Spring 2025) 

·        Current full-time IUI undergraduate

·        minimum overall GPA of 2.0 

·        All majors welcome
