Corporate Development & Strategy Intern

Scope
The Summer Intern program provides college students with the opportunity to participate in meaningful projects that contribute to the overall business unit objectives.  In addition to the assigned projects, Interns are given the opportunity to participate in activities that encourage networking with peers, managers, and employees.  

Job Summary:
The Corporate Development & Strategy Intern will help support Corporate Development & Strategy in maintaining competitive intelligence and assessing inorganic opportunities to help drive long-term shareholder value.

Essential Functions & Accountabilities:
• Develop a strong understanding of CooperCompanies’ markets (Vision and Women’s Health), research and monitor industry trends and competitive landscape.
• Prepare competitive landscape of adjacent markets, identifying and evaluating key trends and new market opportunities, and recommending potential acquisition or investment targets.
• Support the team in the full mergers & acquisitions lifecycle: develop strategic rationale and create business cases, prepare financial models and support due diligence and integration activities.
• Support the team on ad-hoc strategy requests such as comparable company analysis, share buybacks and meeting materials for the leadership team and Board of Directors.

Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Strong understanding of the M&A lifecycle. 
• Knowledge of US GAAP and ability to read and analyze financial statements.
• Basic knowledge of financial modeling and valuation techniques (discounted cash flow, comparables, etc). 
• Excellent research skills and the ability to break down information into clear, actionable insights.
• High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
• Professional demeanor.
• Well organized with attention to detail and ability to carry out tasks independently.
• Ability to meet deadlines with competing high priority and sensitive projects.

Work Environment:
• Prolonged sitting in front of a computer and using the telephone/conference facilities.
• Hybrid Schedule; willing to report to work in the San Ramon, CA office.
• This is a paid internship.

Experience:
• Not required, but prior Internship experience is a plus.
• Experience analyzing financial statements and building financial models is a plus.

Education:
• Current college student, majoring in business administration, accounting or finance, entering their Junior or Senior year or working towards a post-graduate degree.
• Minimum 3.3 GPA.

For U.S. locations that require disclosure of compensation, the starting base pay for this role is between $26.87 and $35.95 per hour and may include cost of living adjustments.  The actual base pay includes many factors and is subject to change and modification in the future.  This position may also be eligible for other types of compensation and benefits.
