Financial Accountant Associate

Fellowship Program Position: This Fellowship Program position is a full-time, temporary, limited term assignment not to exceed three years from the date of hire. It is intended for individuals that have graduated with a bachelor's degree from and accredited college or university within the last 12 months.

The Financial Accountant Associate is responsible for assisting with financial and accounting work to support financial decision making. The incumbent will assist with financial reconciliations, data entry, and system access management, while supporting the preparation of financial reports and monitoring cash and balance sheet accounts. This position requires you to work proactively with the financial Accountant team, Finance staff, and agency employees.

This is a hybrid position requiring onsite work conducted at our TRS office in Austin, Texas, approximately two to three times a week or as required for business needs. 


WHAT YOU WILL DO:

Reconciliation & Financial Reporting
•Provide support and back up accounts receivable and cashier functions on a regular basis.
•Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual reconciliations between the general ledger and sub ledgers.
•Support and back up accounts receivable and cashier functions on a regular basis.
•Assist with data entry of vouchers, deposits, and journals.
•Researches and resolves reconciliation discrepancies and payroll adjustments.
•Support testing of system implementation projects and enhancements.
•Prepares reports, schedules, journal entries and related vouchers for cash, expenditure reimbursements, deposits, and annuity payroll.
•Assists with the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
•Helps monitor and research various cash and balance sheet accounts.

Accounting Systems Coordinator
•Monitors, reviews and seeks approval for system access requests.
•Collects Confidential Treatment of Information Acknowledgement forms from employees and contractors using Accounting Systems.
•Resets passwords and unlocks user access.
•Ensures timely removal of access for terminated or transferred employees.
•Maintains records of access tickets, signature cards, approvals, and related documents.
•Coordinates and conducts semi-annual reviews of various accounting/financial systems.

Fellowship
•Participates in trainings and projects related to the TRS Fellowship Program including webinars, quarterly check-ins, classes or other learning activities, book group, projects, and the mentoring program.
•Meets TRS Fellowship Program deadlines and goals for completion of trainings in deliverables in a timely manner.
•Performs related work as assigned.


 

WHAT YOU WILL BRING:

Required Education
•Bachelor’s degree or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Finance, Accounting, or a closely related field awarded within the last 12 months.

Required Experience
•None.

Required Registration, Certification, or Licensure
•None.

Preferred Qualifications
•Experience with Comptroller of Public Accounts Uniform Statewide Accounting Systems (USAS).

Knowledge Of
•Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and/or Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).

Skills In
•Attention to detail and accuracy in work procedures.
•Planning, organizing, and prioritizing work assignments to manage a high-volume workload in a fast-paced and changing environment.
•Using a computer in a Windows environment with Microsoft Office word processing, spreadsheet, and other business software.
•Effective written and verbal communications, including explaining complex information to others in an understandable manner, and writing clear and precise policies, procedures, correspondence, and other materials.

Ability To
•Establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with co-workers, agency staff, and external contacts.
•Work effectively in a professional team environment.



Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) Codes:
