
LHSI Intern: Primary Care & Mental Health
Program Summary:
This internship is offered as a part of the Life-Health Sciences Internship Program (LHSI). This program connects 125 IUI undergraduates per year with internships on campus with faculty and staff in a variety of health and science related campus areas/programs. All LHSI internships start in August 2025 and end in May 2026 and are paid $13/hour for up to 10 hours per week. Work-study is accepted but not required.

Overview of the internship site: Influence the health & well-being of individuals and learners by working with Family Medicine faculty members and learners in Primary Care settings. Past projects have included: Literature review on effective integrated behavioral health; chart review of mental health referrals (including HIPAA-protected information); chart tracking of mental health outcomes (mental health counseling, medications, and other treatment support); entering information into data system (i.e., RedCap); assisting faculty mentor with research planning & implementation (e.g., developing and distributing protocols, administrative support); and clinical shadowing opportunities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Ability to follow HIPAA-compliant practices, including dealing with private health information, complete human subjects protection and research best practices training. Communication and critical thinking skills. Ability to work independently. Willing to learn various programs for tracking and implementation of scholarship & research (RedCap, Qualtrics, EndNote, etc.)
Work Environment and Dress Code: The work is performed primarily in an office setting with dress code business casual
Hours per week: 10, scheduling is flexible within regular work hours
Project-specific qualifications:
- Ability to follow HIPAA-compliant practices, including dealing with private health information, complete human subjects protection and research best practices training.

LHSI Qualifications
· must be graduating May 2027 or after (usually a current freshman or sophomore in Spring 2025)
· Current full-time IUI undergraduate
· minimum overall GPA of 2.0
· All majors welcome
