Library Services Assistant

Summary:

Seeking a highly motivated and technology savvy individual to serve as Library Services Assistant. The Library Services Assistant aides in delivering literary and artistic programs to youth (ages 0-18), maintaining library standards, customer service, and other various tasks throughout the library.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or its equivalent. 2 years of undergrad education preferred. Desire to spend time with children and teens required. Interest in reading, programming, or community outreach preferred.

Reports to: Library Director

Hours: 20-25 Hours per week; must be able to work some evenings (Library closes at 7:00) and 2 Saturdays per month.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervision of the Children's Library in the absence of the Children's Programmer: Paying attention to the space and what's going on in it; addressing troubling behavior; getting to know patrons and their interests
  • Programming: Assisting with programming initiatives, set up, clean up, and supervision; knowing and being able to talk about programming schedule with patron
  • Other duties including keeping space clean, shelving books and shelf reading, and assisting other employees with any other duties assigned.

Conditions of Employment:

The selected candidate will be required to obtain within the first 30 days of employment 3 forms of clearance, including PA State Police Criminal History Record Check; PA Child Abuse History; and FBI Criminal History Background Check including finger printing. Expenses for these clearances will be reimbursed 90 days after their start date.
