GIS Technician Intern

Summer 2025 GIS Analyst Internship

Level: Entry

Job Location: On-site in Dallas, TX

JOB DESCRIPTION

Build essential, hands-on skills by learning from and assisting the GIS staff with land and lease mapping, geospatial data management and analysis, and other various mapping projects in support of Matador’s Exploration & Production and Midstream operations in the Delaware Basin.

Attend a field trip consisting of geologic outcroppings, drilling operations, completion operations, production facilities, and a midstream gas plant.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Responsibilities:

  • Provide mapping support to the Land Department.
  • Utilize 3rd party data providers to research, analyze, and organize data, to prepare and maintain Activity Maps, Competitor Maps, and other maps and data products to support acquisition and divestiture activities.
  • Work with Matador’s asset teams, utilizing GIS to contribute to exploration, development planning, and operations activities.
  • General data entry, data management, and map creation as directed by the GIS Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, or related field.
  • An interest in the Oil & Gas industry.
  • Knowledge of foundational GIS concepts, cartographic principles, data editing best practices, and geospatial analysis tools.
  • Introductory knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS software (6-12 credit hours preferred).
  • Introductory knowledge of scripting languages (Python, SQL, Arcade preferred).
  • Strong core values of teamwork, curiosity, intellect, and integrity.
  • Strong computer, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and self-starting.
