Job description

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to be a valued member of our team and provide first level technical support to our students, staff, and faculty via phone, chat, and email. Most technical skills needed can be trained.

IT Service Desk is a gateway area to transition into more specialized areas of The University of Akron IT Department such as Network Services, Server Administration, Application Services, and Cybersecurity. 

A lot of flexibility with hours to work around classes. 

Opportunities to work phone/chat support remotely once adequately trained. 

Responsibilities: 

Perform software and account troubleshooting for end users. 

Provide both in person and remote support over phone, chat, and email. 

Update and work on tickets as assigned. 

Help to write technical documentation to common solutions. 

Other duties as assigned 

Skill Requirements: 

Excellent customer service skills 

Basic technical knowledge and willingness to seek out information 

Desire to learn 

Knowledge of computer components and interactions (A+ or equivalent certificate preferred)  

Time requirements: 

Current hours of operation span Monday – Friday 8am-6pm. 

We typically expect 10-20 hours per week from our student employees but can be flexible.
