
LHSI Intern: Research Assistant: treatment services for youth and families who experience substance use and mental health concerns
Program Summary:
This internship is offered as a part of the Life-Health Sciences Internship Program (LHSI). This program connects 125 IUI undergraduates per year with internships on campus with faculty and staff in a variety of health and science related campus areas/programs. All LHSI internships start in August 2025 and end in May 2026 and are paid $13/hour for up to 10 hours per week. Work-study is accepted but not required.

Overview of the internship site: Our team's work improves treatment services for youth and families who experience substance use and mental health concerns. We are an interdisciplinary team in the IU School of Medicine whose primary goals are to increase understanding of how co-occurring behavioral health problems develop and to improve access to high quality clinical services for youth and families impacted by trauma, mental health problems, and substance use. Several of our projects involve development and evaluation of novel applications of technology to improve quality of care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Attend lab meetings and other pertinent meetings to learning objectives (e.g., psychiatry grand rounds, works-in-progress sessions), complete readings and orientation to lab concepts and procedures, prepare study materials, correspond with participants (phone, email), build online surveys, assist with data management, provide clerical support to PI and research staff as needed. There is a potential to assist with social media posts, manuscript preparations, etc. (based on interest and ability).
Work Environment and Dress Code: The work is performed primarily in an office setting with dress code of business casual for office. Our team has been doing various amounts of remote work.
Hours per week: flexible based on student needs (10 maximum), scheduling is flexible within regular work hours
Project-specific qualifications: Comfortability working with the public, specifically adolescents and their families. Attention to detail for assisting with data management.

LHSI Qualifications
· must be graduating May 2027 or after (usually a current freshman or sophomore in Spring 2025)
· Current full-time IUI undergraduate
· minimum overall GPA of 2.0
· All majors welcome
