Supervisor: Dr. Tamara Hannon

Department/Office: Medicine; Pediatrics

Overview of the internship site: My research and clinical work focuses on the prevention and treatment of diabetes. I am interested in how and why young people develop type 2 diabetes and how best to prevent and treat type 2 diabetes. I also study interventions to improve self-care in I am a pediatric endocrinologist (pediatrician who completed a fellowship in pediatric endocrinology) who specializes in the care and research of people with diabetes. The ultimate goal of my work is to translate what we know about how the body works (findings from the physiology laboratory) to improve treatment outcomes of diabetes. Most of my work centers around diabetes prevention in families who are at increased risk for diabetes. Some of the projects that I do involve using patient-centered design processes to improve how we deliver care in clinic. For my work, data are collected in the clinical laboratory, from computer databases/electronic medical records, and talking with research volunteers.
