Intern, Mayor's Office

Interns can expect to be assigned both day-to-day tasks and long-term projects to support staff in Mayor Todd Gloria’s office. The Mayor’s Office includes the following divisions: Community Engagement, Policy, Boards and Commissions, Communications, Global Affairs, Administration, and Government Affairs. Interns will attend and participate in various briefings, trainings, as well as community and City staff meetings. They will engage extensively with the public, other elected officials and offices, City operations and Mayoral staff, community leaders, and stakeholders. Interns will have the opportunity to work on various high priority issues such as homelessness, public safety, infrastructure, housing, climate, and economic development. Tasks may include: 

  • Answering constituent inquiries, caseworks, and policy questions via phones and emails; 
  • Managing the Mayor’s external public email inbox; 
  • Greeting guests upon arrival to the Mayor’s Office; 
  • Crafting proclamations, letters, and certificates of recognition; 
  • Drafting talking points, coordinating press conferences, and creating digital content; 
  • Conducting policy research, analysis, and briefs; 
  • Attending community group meetings, public events, and internal briefings; 
  • Participating in calls, meetings, and events with County, State, Federal, and non-governmental partners and offices; 
  • Assisting with administrative tasks related to employee engagement and the Mayor’s calendar. 

There is a potential for this position to be paid if applicants qualify for the City's Employ + Empower paid internship program.
