GIS Graduate Assistant

This position involves assisting faculty, staff, and students with GIS-related projects, provide training and workshops, data analysis, mapping, and research tasks. The incumbent will also help maintain GIS databases, software, and equipment.

Expected Responsibilities:

  • Assist faculty, staff, and students with GIS-related projects, including data collection, analysis, and visualization.
  • Assist researchers with geospatial needs including locating and accessing data sets, using GIS software, employing cartographic principles to create maps, converting data to other formats.
  • Assist in the preparation and presentation of GIS-related workshops, seminars, and training sessions.
  • Provide technical support to users of GIS software and equipment.
  • Ensure that GeoSpace computer workstations, printers, and software are updated and in working order.
  • Create maps, spatial analysis, and geospatial datasets using GIS software such as ArcGIS or similar tools.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of GIS databases and repositories.
  • Conduct research on GIS methodologies, techniques, and applications.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot GIS software, hardware, and peripherals in GeoSpace lab at Alkek One.
  • Stay updated on advancements in GIS technology and best practices in the field.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Graduate Student with GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, or experience in a related field.
  • Knowledge of GIS principles, concepts, and software applications.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in GIS software such as ArcGIS, or similar tools.
  • Prior experience with GIS projects or research is desirable.
