
LHSI Intern: Social Determinant of Health at Eskenazi Health
Program Summary:
This internship is offered as a part of the Life-Health Sciences Internship Program (LHSI). This program connects 125 IUI undergraduates per year with internships on campus with faculty and staff in a variety of health and science related campus areas/programs. All LHSI internships start in August 2025 and end in May 2026 and are paid $13/hour for up to 10 hours per week. Work-study is accepted but not required.

Overview of the internship site: Social Determinants of Health greatly impact the health and wellness in our community. The Eskenazi Health Social Determinants of Health team is further integrating social needs support into healthcare to address food insecurity, housing, transportation, Eskenazi Social Determinants of Health team is partnering with a variety of community based organizations to improve social needs screening and access to resources for food access, transportation, housing and safety to improve the health of individuals and neighborhoods in our community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: LHSI intern would work with the Social Determinant of Health leadership team on community efforts to improve screening and social supports for individuals who have food insecurity, housing insecurity, transportation barriers, or other social factors that impact health. Interns will receive training to assist with SDOH screening, data collection, food access support, advocacy and other community efforts.
Work Environment and Dress Code: The work is performed primarily in an office setting with dress code business/casual
Hours per week: flexible based on student needs (10 maximum), scheduling is flexible within regular work hours
Project-specific qualifications: This intern should have an interest in health advocacy and the integration of social and clinical care for health equity. The intern will receive support and training for the skills needed to work with the ongoing efforts of the Eskenazi Health Social Determinants of Health team. There will be a variety of opportunities to work with food pantry/access efforts, SDOH screening and data collection and other community efforts related to the social determinants of health.

LHSI Qualifications
· must be graduating May 2027 or after (usually a current freshman or sophomore in Spring 2025)
· Current full-time IUI undergraduate
· minimum overall GPA of 2.0
· All majors welcome
