Water Utility Technician II
Saint Paul Regional Water Services is a public drinking water utility serving the City of Saint Paul and six surrounding suburban cities with retail water service and three additional cities with wholesale water service. We have been a public water utility since 1882 and currently serve a population of approximately 450,000 people. These positions perform an important role in the delivery of construction projects as part of our ongoing effort to maintain $4 billion in water system infrastructure assets. We currently have 2 Water Utility Technician II positions we are looking to fill.
Our first vacancy will work with the Distribution Administration and Distribution Dispatch groups, as part of the lead replacement team.
Here’s what you can expect to do:
- Process damage claims and direct charges
- Submit Right of Way (ROW) and sewer permits
- Create traffic patterns
- Index and create work orders
- Provide billable work order quality control
- Assist with customer service in the dispatch office
Information Specific to this Position: This position is located at 1900 Rice Street, St. Paul, MN 55113. Working hours will be 7am to 3:30pm, Monday - Friday. Remote work is not available.
Our second position is for a skilled CAD Technician. The ideal candidate will be proficient in various CAD software and possess a strong understanding of drafting principles. This role involves creating detailed drawings within project timelines. The CAD Technician will collaborate inspectors, engineers, and project managers both internal and external to develop detail plans for various types of construction projects.
Here's what you can expect to do:
- Develop and prepare detailed CAD drawings using Autodesk Civil 3D software
- Update and maintain the McCarron's campus survey drawing
- Develop and update 2D and 3D renderings of water treatment facilities
- Collaborate with project teams to understand requirements and incorporate feedback into revisions
- Develop CAD templates, blocks, catalogs, line types, LISP routines, and tool palettes and maintain records of drawings and revisions
- Create standard operating procedures (SOPs) for CAD drawings and as-builds
Information Specific to this Position: This position is located at 1900 Rice Street, St. Paul, MN 55113. This position has flexible hours and will work Monday - Friday, this position is available to work from home up to 2-days a week once trained.

Position Requirements:
Two years of experience as a Water Utility Technician I or equivalent. Equivalent experience includes field and office engineering work inspecting public infrastructure or water systems, utility plan review, permitting, construction cost estimating, or plan drafting.
OR
A Combination of post-secondary credits in technical classes and experience as a Water Utility Technician I, or equivalent to equal at least two years. Equivalent experience includes field and office engineering work inspecting public infrastructure or water systems, utility plan review, permitting, construction cost estimating, or plan drafting.
12 technical credits = 1 year experience.
OR
Twenty-four semester credits of technical classes.
**Technical classes include but are not limited to math, engineering, GIS, CAD, construction management, or water management/technologies.
AND
Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D Driver's License or equivalent out-of-state driver's license.

GENERAL INFORMATION:
Open Job Posting: This posting is open to anyone who meets the position requirements.
Eligible Lists Created from Open Job Posting: You must receive a score of 75% or higher to pass the assessment and be considered for the position. Non-promotion eligible lists typically are pass/fail and promotion eligible lists are typically ranked. If the open eligible list created contains a veteran, one open list will exist. When there are no veterans remaining on the eligible list (i.e. hired, withdrawn) from an open list that also contains promotional candidates, two lists will be created: one open list and one promotion list. If two lists exist, the promotion list must be exhausted before the open list is considered.
Final Selection Process: Those who pass will be placed on an eligible list for approximately six months and all will be notified of their status. A Hiring Manager will consider those applicants eligible for hire. You will be notified if you are invited to participate in the final selection process which may include an interview, job simulation, work sample submission, or other evaluation method.
