Urban Forester

The City of Saint Paul Parks and Recreation Department is hiring an individual to perform professional work in the city urban forestry program to include arboriculture, ground maintenance, and landscaping. 

Here's what you can expect to do:

  • Conduct tree inspections to assess state of the urban forest, monitor tree health, and prescribe treatments when needed.
  • Contribute to the design, implementation, and maintenance of urban forestry related projects and departmental management plans.
  • Work with contractors, forestry crews, non-profit and volunteer organizations, and Saint Paul residents to resolve problems and achieve results in all aspects of urban forestry operations.
  • Investigate complaints related to the urban forest and provide appropriate assistance.
  • May instruct forestry crews in forestry maintenance concepts and procedures and perform outreach and education on related topics.

Information Specific to this Position:
We currently have one Urban Forester vacancy in the Forestry Section of the Parks & Recreation Department located at 1100 Hamline Ave N, Saint Paul, MN 55108. Forestry operates on a Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. schedule. Some evening and weekend hours are required intermittently throughout the year. The position is a combination of office and field work.

Position Requirements:

 

A Bachelor's Degree in Forestry or a related field, and one year of professional municipal urban forestry or equivalent experience. (No substitution for education.)

Must be an International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist.

Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D Driver's License, or equivalent out-of-state driver's license.
