INTERNSHIP Opportunities

Thank you for your interest in performing your Internship with Region Ten Community Services Board. Region Ten provides services for mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance use in the City of Charlottesville and the Counties of Albemarle, Greene, Fluvanna, Louisa, and Nelson. Possible future career opportunities include direct care staff, social workers, nurses, clinicians, teachers, office staff, administrators, and others that make a valuable contribution to their community.

By performing your internship at Region Ten, you will gain valuable experience in providing direct care and clinical experience with clients who are experience needs as well as learn from experienced and supportive clinicians and other staff members who can assist you in learning how to write progress notes, write treatment plans, write other clinical documentation, and so much more.

Depending On Your Area Of Interest, Your Career Path, And Area Of Placement, Your Role And Assignment Will Vary. Our Internships Will Vary From Season To Season. Some Sample Tasks You Could Perform During Your Role Include The Following:

• Observing and/or facilitating counseling sessions 
• Performing case management 
• Taking part in staff meetings 
• Performing intakes, assessments, and evaluations 
• Completing screenings 
• Conducting program needs assessments 
• Assisting in writing Individual Plans 
• Performing community outreach

We are looking for individuals who are in programs of study that may include the following:

• Mental Health prevention and/or treatment 
• Substance abuse prevention and treatment 
• Developmental Disabilities/Intellectual Disabilities 
• Program administration, operations and management 
• Research and data analysis 
• Human services and/or public health

We accept applications three times per year for start dates as listed below as well as year-round on an unscheduled basis.

Managers will provide their opportunities to Human Resources and all opportunities for the will be posted on our career site under the Internship Application

• January (Winter) - Positions posted September 23rd - Session begins in January 
• Summer (May) - Positions posted January 23rd - Session begins in May 
• Fall (August) - Positions posted April 23rd - Session begins in August 
• if we have opportunities for Nursing Preceptorships or Psychiatric Residents, these will be posted on the site during these times as well.

Once Your Application Is Received:

• Human Resources will review your application to ensure you have submitted all needed materials. 
• Your application will be sent with all materials to the Hiring Manager for the internship you have indicated you want to be considered for) 
• The Hiring Manager will review your application and contact you should they wish to interview you for their internship opportunity. 
• Managers will inform Human Resources of their decision (typically within 2-3 weeks of your application submission date) 
• Human Resources will make an offer for the Internship.

Onboarding Process:

• Human Resources will provide an offer letter and hiring packet to the intern. The offer packet will include the “orientation day” as the first day. 
• Interns will also need to provide the following to Human Resources: 
• A TB screening/test 
• Disclosure Statement 
• Release Statement 
• Criminal Background Check 
• Department of Social Services Background 
• Emergency Contact Form 
• EEO Form 
• Interns will be required to complete the following Training Assignments 
• Full Day Orientation 
• Confidentiality Training 
• Abuse and Incident Reporting 
• Human Rights Training 
• Additional Training may be required depending on the program

Daily Tasks:

• Daily tasks include diagnostic assessments, outpatient individual therapy, and outpatient group therapy. Maintaining timely progress notes, crafting individual service plans and conducting 90-day reviews of services plans are also part of the expectations at

AACS.

Placement In School:

• Intern should be in their second year of a Master's level social work or counseling education.

Certification Or License Required:

• None

Additional Internship Expectations:

• Internship will be one year long preferred; 8-month long internship will be considered on an individual basis 
• Looking for someone who has a warm presence, organized, and open to learning new skill set.

Emergency Services and Stabilization # 1

Daily Tasks:

• Interns will be supporting individuals in crisis by assisting with triage, phone calls, in person assessments, and coordination of care. Interns may research resources.

Placement In School:

• We are able to accept bachelor's level and master's level interns

Certification Or License Required:

• Interns should be active in school during internship and should have liability insurance through their program

Additional Internship Expectations:

• Highly motivated individuals will be successful in this role. Individuals who are interested in working in crisis and those with experience with MH/SUD and IDD needs will be most 
• Supervision available weekly during internship. Current hours 8a-8p M-F with potential weekend availability.

• Highly motivated individuals will be successful in this role. Individuals who are interested in working in crisis and those with experience with MH/SUD and IDD needs will be most 
• Supervision available weekly during internship. Current hours 8a-5p M-F with potential weekend availability.
