Retail Hospitality Intern

Job Summary:
Cherry Republic’s Retail Hospitality Intern is responsible for the daily operation and oversight of the Retail Store during the summer months which tentatively include mid-May through Labor Day. This person will help oversee daily operations and staff, along with procedures to ensure that we are delivering customer service in alignment with our proven process.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Retail Manager as directed while accomplishing operational and customer service-oriented tasks and responsibilities, including, but not limited to, learning how to schedule staff according to budget, conducting new hire onboarding procedures, and executing new hire training.
  • Support management with opening and closing procedures, ensure the cleanliness of the retail store and ensure safety measures are maintained and followed.
  • Provide excellent customer service to guests and excellent leadership to employees.
  • Responsible for the successful operation of the POS system.
  • Balancing all-day and nightly cash drawers and POS.
  • Assist Retail Management with inventory management procedures.
  • Maintain floor inventory so that the floor looks full at all times
  • Work with the lead merchandiser to learn how to merchandise a CR store and execute accordingly
  • Ensure merchandise is clean and ready to be displayed
  • Continually monitor the appearance of the store, winery, ice cream area, and grounds.
  • Support truck delivery day operations as directed by the Inventory Controller
  • Shadow management during the interview process for potential new hires
  • Cross-train in all areas of the business to execute daily operations
  • Enforce and monitor all health, safety, and sanitation standards within the retail store.
  • Enforcement of all Cherry Republic policies and common practices
  • Resolve customer issues efficiently and professionally.
  • Assist with all special events that take place at the store, including but not limited to summer events, staff events, and employee morale
  • Attend and participate in L10 meetings on a weekly basis
  • Always maintain an open line of communication with the Retail Manager and Retail staff; summer months and holidays are of the highest priority.
  • Support in ordering and knowledge of ordering systems.

  • Ability to work with multiple groups of staff while creating a positive work culture.


Supervisory Responsibilities:
The Retail Hospitality Intern has limited managerial and supervisory responsibilities over staff and reports directly to the Retail Manager.

  • Age: Because this position has the potential to sell and serve alcoholic beverages, applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Education and / or Experience: Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in hospitality management, business or another related field. Previous experience in a retail setting is preferred, but not required. Certifications such TAM are required. (We can provide if necessary)
  • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret data.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate numbers and recognize patterns when analyzing data.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to communicate issues accurately and thoroughly to all individuals involved. Assist in the development of solid procedures/practices that follow appropriate measures.
  • Computer Skills: To perform this job, you should have a working knowledge Microsoft, and familiarity with POS software and ERP.
  • Physical Requirements: This position will require candidates to be on the floor 80% of the time and sitting stationary at a desk for 20% of the time. Requires the ability to stand in a stationary position for long periods of time with frequent periods of walking at a face pace within the restaurant area. Frequent bending, crouching, reaching, climbing for product. Repetitive motions involving manual dexterity, and arms when stocking or removing product. Ability to lift 50lbs, use a ladder, or perform other physical tasks occasionally. Outdoor work is performed in all weather conditions, including extreme cold, snow, wind, rain, and sun.
