Assistant to Community Manager
Position Summary
Are you looking to join a dynamic local government organization with the ability to grow professionally in all aspects of local governance? Barefoot Bay (approx. population 10,000) is seeking a high potential, ethical local government professional to serve as an Assistant to the Community Manager. Located in southern Brevard County, Barefoot Bay is a special district as defined by Florida Statutes and operates like a municipality. Barefoot Bay is governed by an elected Board (five members) and an appointed Community Manager (akin to a city manager). This position has potential for growth within the organization for
General Purpose
Under direction of the Community Manager, support of the Community Manager and Leadership Team through the Board of Trustee’s established priorities, budget, and special projects.
Provides operational and budgetary support in alignment with Barefoot Bay’s budgetary priorities and departmental goals and objectives.
Serves as a liaison to clubs and groups, assists in public relations efforts.
May serve as acting department manager during absences and/or vacancies.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Works closely with the Community Manager in developing and assembling annual budget documents as well as long term expenditure analysis associated with annual budget.
Develop analysis of various events or activities hosted by the Community (including attendance, cost of event and revenue generated) to determine ROI (return on investment).
Develop metrics to assess the effectiveness of an event in relation to the investment made.
Measure both tangible and intangible metrics such as attendance rates, revenue, participant satisfaction.
Understand trends (weather impact or competing events in the local area) and build metrics to incorporate those factors.
Monitor community activity and respond to inquiries, comments, and concerns in a timely and professional manner
Grant research and administration including:
Researching grant opportunities
Prepare grant applications, making sure that applications focus on the conditions, restrictions, and goals of the sponsoring organization.
Monitors financial administration of grants to ensure that proper documentation is submitted for expenditures and that requests for funds are made within time limitations specified.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support the overall growth and succession plans of the community.
Provide potential oversight of a department during absences or vacancies of Department Head.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, or related field
Previous experience in local government
Local government budgeting experience
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Must be a team player with a positive, can-do attitude and always seeking ways to accomplish assignments in an efficient and effective manner.
Must have good communication skills, commitment to ethical behavior, critical thinking, attention to detail, high energy passion for local government.
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
Ability to attend night meetings and work extended hours as needed or required.
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to handle sensitive and/or confidential information with discretion and good judgment.
Excellent verbal, written and listening communication skills.
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
